Halifax Share Dealing has announced that private investors will be able to take advantage of a commission-free share purchase day on December 19.

The group has said it will waive the usual fee of £11.95 during the day on all online purchases of UK securities.

In addition to existing customers, the free trading day is open to anyone who does not already have a share dealing account.

Private investors can open an account with the company via its website, where they will be asked to provide their bank account information, National Insurance number and address details for the last three years.

This is the second time Halifax Share Dealing has offered a free trade day - the last was in June when the company celebrated its tenth birthday.

Halifax Share Dealing, managing director, Sue Concannon said: "When we ran our last free trading day in June, our customers really took advantage of the offer and it was enormously popular.

"We think it is important that our offers are available to new customers as well as existing, particularly when many providers make 'new customers only' promotions.

"Like our current free Halifax ShareBuilder offer, this demonstrates our commitment to providing easy affordable access to everyone."
